Maya Ray Thurman Hawke, famously known as Robin Buckley in “Stranger Things”, was rumored to be part of the LGBTQ community as she portrayed a lesbian role in this Netflix science fiction series. Aside from being a TV personality, she’s also a singer and she modeled for Vogue at the beginning of her career.
Maya comes from a family of Hollywood royalty. She’s the daughter of Ethan Hawke, an American actor and film director, and Uma Thurman, an American actress and former model, famous for her role in “Kill Bill” and “The Bride”.
She grew up having dyslexia, which made her transfer from one school to another as she tried to find a place that suited her. She then found St. Ann’s, an art-focused school in Brooklyn Heights, where the students are allowed to express themselves creatively without being graded. This is where her passion for drama was born.
Despite coming from a family of actors, Maya Hawke strived her way to Hollywood. Her debut TV series was “Little Women” (2017) where she played the role of Jo March, an outspoken, daring tomboy who behaves masculinely to escape the expectations and confinement of womanhood.

Although she portrayed a lesbian character in “Stranger Things”, Maya Hawke has only dated men in real life.
In 2019, she dated the now President and CEO of Rolling Stone, Gus Wenner, who was the then Chief Operating Officer of the said magazine. Their relationship was public that they even posted about each other on Instagram. Sad to say it didn’t last long.
She then dated The Sandman actor, Tom Sturridge. They were together for a year and a half (July 2020-January 2022). The relationship has been the talk of the town since the pair had a 13-year gap. Maya Hawke was 22 and Sturridge was 35. The fans were not pleased with the age gap.
She is now linked with Spencer Barnett, an indie-pop musician. Although they haven’t publicly confirmed the relationship, they were spotted attending a few red carpet events together. It is believed that they met through her brother Levon Hawke, who’s also an actor.
Although the couple haven’t reached the point of posting each other on social media, especially on Instagram, Maya pointed out in an interview that she’s not particularly interested in her phone and she’s more interested in human contact.

In the seventh episode of “Stranger Things” Season 3, Maya Hawke’s character, Robin, comes out to her friend Steve after being captured, tortured, and injected with a Russian Truth Serum.
Well, that’s a scary way of letting people tell the truth. Although Hawke is enjoying her role as a lesbian in the series, she is definitely not queer in real life. Her being a lesbian will just remain in the movies, nothing strange about these things.
