On Grooming Allegations
In 2020, Benji Krol created a buzz online when he was involved in a grooming allegation together with his ex-boyfriend, Jorge Garay.
It all started when someone who claims to be 15 years old shared their experience on Twitter via an anonymous account. According to them, Jorge has been sending them explicit FaceTime screenshots of Benji.

The anonymous account was also sharing call logs and messages as “evidence” of their claims that the couple — Benji, 19, and Jorge, 18 — were grooming and sexting them. The alleged victim was accusing the pair of manipulating the victim into doing things to please them.

The post blew up on Twitter with the thread garnering over 30,000 likes and was shared over 10,000 times. It took Benji a few days to answer the allegations. On August 23, he posted his initial response on the issue. He apologized for not responding to the issue right away and blamed it on his suicide attempt which, as he pointed out, was not the first time that it happened and that it was really not directly related to the “scandal”.
He admitted that the explicit FaceTime was legit. However, he also shared that he told Jorge that it was wrong and that he was very uncomfortable with it. He also added that he doesn’t know the full story. Jorge knew everything, he said, but he couldn’t really ask him at the moment as he went back to his own home.
It took Jorge Garay one week to respond to the allegations. On August 30, Jorge admitted that what he did was very wrong. He also admitted to manipulating Benji alongside the victim.

Everything didn’t stop there. On September 25, almost a month after the issue took the Twitter world by storm, Benji uploaded a 30-minute video with the title “clearing things up” in which he shared his side of the story, in full detail. He said it’s not his intention to shift the blame. Rather, he just wanted to clarify some information.
The social media star clarified that the alleged victim was 16 years old and not 15 as they claimed. With 16 as the legal age of consent in Spain, the alleged victim was not considered a minor.
Benji also said that this was not the first time that Jorge sent his photos to several people without his permission. Jorge would then brag about it on Twitter saying, “that awkward moment when you tell your bf you have sent his nudes to a friend.”
Benji also shared that he had talked with some of the victim’s friends and they had shown him screenshots of their conversations. Apparently, the victim told their friends, “Benji keeps ignoring me, should I just expose him?”
He ended the video by saying that he wanted to take some time off social media as he needed some time for himself to sort things out. Jorge, on the other hand, was gone “missing” for a while after the scandal.
