Bob Lee was an American tech mogul who rose to fame after creating one of the most popular finance services, Cash App. He was born on December 20, 1979, in St. Louis, Missouri, where he spent his childhood and attended the local high school. From a young age, Lee showed talent in design and technology, creating a 3D rendering engine using Turbo Pascal. He also dabbled in sports such as water polo where he was nicknamed “Crazy Bob.” After graduating from high school, Lee went to Southeast Missouri State University.

Before he was a high-profile businessman, Lee got his start working as a web developer for his state university. At the time, he released a free program to protect servers from a computer worm called “Code Red.” In 2003, Lee moved to AT&T as a technical architect where he developed several projects and frameworks. He was brilliant in his job and was quickly moving up the ranks, so barely a year later, he was already working for Google as a software engineer. One of Lee’s biggest achievements was co-founding the dependency injection framework Guice with Kevin Bourrillion for which he received the 2008 Jolt Awad.
In 2010, Lee was recruited by Square, an e-commerce company now known as Block Inc. After becoming the chief technology officer, the tech mogul moved to San Francisco and took over the company’s new iOS app. Several years later, Lee helped build Cash App and Square Cash, two of the most used cash platforms in the United States. Although he eventually left the company in 2014, Lee made a name for himself by investing in tech startups such as SpaceX and Figma. Shortly before his death, he also joined a cryptocurrency firm called MobileCoin.

Bob Lee’s Underground Life
Like with other rags-to-riches stories, Lee apparently flew too close to the sun. The tech mogul’s newfound wealth and lifestyle proved too much for his family to handle. In 2019, Lee separated from his wife, Krista Lee, leaving behind his two children. According to stories from friends and associates, Lee started changing by the time he moved to San Francisco. At this point, he had found himself a new crowd – a group of partygoers known as “The Lifestyle.”
This new set of friends consisted of other high-profile entrepreneurs and socialites who loved partying hard, taking drugs, and engaging in casual sex. Wanting to fit in with his social crowd, Lee started sleeping with numerous women and would often keep multiple girlfriends at the same time. He was also known for being extravagant especially when it came to gifting his lovers. Based on testimonies from friends, Lee once bought a new Tesla for a woman he hooked up with and was fond of taking spontaneous and lavish trips.
Aside from excessive partying and attending events, Lee also started getting into drugs. According to reports, he would often take cocaine, ecstasy or ketamine during his trips. He was also frequently high when participating in group intercourse. Overall, Lee was very far from the wholesome image he had crafted for the world to see.

He was immediately taken to a hospital but died due to his injuries. According to the autopsy report, Lee suffered brutal stabs to his heart and lungs. Lee and Momeni were both from the tech industry and knew each other. Details would later resurface stating that the two men dated the same woman at one point. The tech mogul was also believed to have been seeing Momeni’s sister, Khazar Elyassnia, even though she was married.
As the case unravelled, it was discovered that Momeni stabbed Lee in his car after confronting him about his relationship with his sister. Momeni wanted to know if the tech mogul was doing anything “inappropriate” with Elyassnia. At this time, Lee had attended parties and taken drugs with Elyassnia just hours before the confrontation. Lee strongly denied the allegations but Momeni didn’t believe him.
Momeni drove Lee to a secluded area before stabbing him multiple times. He then left Lee out in the street to bleed to death. Although Lee was able to alert the authorities, it was too late and he succumbed to his wounds hours later.
