Stewie’s Sexuality Explored
It’s intriguing how some people have interpreted Stewie from “Family Guy” as the gayest character on television due to his behavior and mannerisms, despite his young age. But yes, this complex and manipulative prodigy’s sexuality has been the interest of many. Viewers said that for over 400 episodes, the youngest Griffin has always been “gay-coded” in a not-so-subtle way.

To name a few examples, this mischievous toddler has been seen peeking at men showering through a peephole, has mentioned homosexual innuendo at least once, crushing on male celebrities, fangirling over the musical theatre, and even making self-references about the possibility of being “possibly homosexual.”
In an episode titled “Send in Stewie, Please,” viewers noted that the 1-year-old troublemaker seemingly came out. It was as if the show had finally “explicitly acknowledged” his sexuality.
In the said episode, Stewie had to attend a therapy session after he pushed a boy at school. He told Dr. Cecil Pritchfield, the therapist, that he’s “less gay” than he used to be.
And not like him, like him. I’m not gay. This whole thing isn’t because I’m gay. So calm down. I can already see you licking your chomps… If anything I’m less gay than I used to be… But do I think that Grant Gustin and I would make the most adorable Instagram couple? Yes, I do.”

In that episode, Stewie talks about fluidity and feeling confident in his heterosexuality. He also mentions feeling anxious while trying to fit in with other kids who have different interests. At one point, he starts rapping from the musical Hamilton, which he describes as “like Gilbert, but for Hispanics.” While he rambles on, all of this leads to one significant revelation — Stewie might be homosexual.
In 2009, Seth MacFarlane, the creator and voice actor of Stewie, mentioned in an interview that the show had contemplated an episode where Stewie would come out as gay. However, they ultimately chose to keep it ambiguous due to Stewie’s young age. But this revelation implies that MacFarlane indirectly acknowledged Stewie’s homosexuality.
But we decided it’s better to keep it vague, which makes more sense because he’s a 1-year-old. Ultimately, Stewie will be gay or a very unhappy repressed heterosexual. It also explains why he’s so hellbent on killing [his mother, Lois] and taking over the world: He has a lot of aggression, which comes from confusion and uncertainty about his orientation.”

Is Stewie Gay?
While the show never explicitly confirmed Stewie’s sexuality, they consistently dropped hints suggesting that the 1-year-old troublemaker might be homosexual. Seth MacFarlane, the creator and voice actor of Stewie, had also mentioned in a 2009 interview with Playboy that they had considered the idea of having Stewie come out in an episode, but ultimately chose to keep it vague due to the character’s young age. This indirectly implies that the mischievous toddler is indeed not heterosexual.
