She was born on April 22, 1999, on the East Coast, as Isabella Avila and prefers to use the “they or them” pronouns. The TikTok Controversy Explained
Onlyjayus is infamous for once being the “most hated creator on TikTok.” The scandal erupted in 2021 when several screenshots of text messages leaked online. The exchanges included Onlyjayus and consisted of anti-gay and racial slurs. With so much evidence against the TikTok star, people began a petition to de-platform them.
Onlyjayus then released a statement, confirming the leaked text messages and apologizing for the statements they made. According to them, these messages were from years ago and didn’t reflect the person that they were now. They also decided to take a step back from social media and use the time to educate themselves regarding the issues that minorities were facing right now. Unfortunately, most fans considered the apology “scripted” and “inauthentic.”
