David Debrandon Brown, popularly known by his stage name Lucky Daye, is an American singer-songwriter who hails from New Orleans, Louisiana. Born on September 25, 1984, this 38-year-old artist has been in the industry for over 7 years now, with one Grammy Award and multiple nominations under his belt. He won the Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album for his third EP, “Table for Two”, in 2022.

His journey to being a professional singer started in 2005 when, at 19 years old, he joined the fourth season of “American Idol.” He made it to the Top 20 before he was eliminated from the competition. But that didn’t discourage him from pursuing his dreams. He started writing songs and was doing background vocals for other artists like Keith Sweat, Keke Palmer, Ella Mai, Trey Songz, Mary J. Blige, and Ariana Grande.

The singer also revealed that he got his inspiration from Grace Jones, a Jamaican-American model best known for her androgynous appearance.
A lot of my inspiration comes from Grace Jones. She blurs the lines between everything. Some people will be like, ‘it’s a man.’ Some people be like, ‘it’s a girl.’ I don’t care about genders and stuff like that. I love the fact that she brought that to life.”

When he was asked about his sexuality, Lucky Daye said he was, at one point, open to exploring possibilities. He even admitted to going out on dates with some of his gay friends. But it never goes beyond that, the singer clarified. There were no physical intimacies involved.
I had a friend who fell in love with me once, but I know at the end of the day, who I am. I don’t go out and date guys, intentionally. I’ve been on dates with some of my gay friends or whatever, but we don’t end the night with me laying on his chest.”

The singer-songwriter also clarified that even though he did try to explore a little, he knew his boundaries. He never really dated men. Lucky Dave said that he was confident in his sexuality and that he knew for a fact that he was straight.

The 38-year-old crooner admitted in a 2021 interview that he was new to dating. This was surprising considering the fact that he would always talk about love, lust, and loss in his music. He also admitted that he wanted to find someone to go on real dates with and go on vacations with.
I want somebody I could take on real dates, outside of where I am. Go vacay and go to other parts of the world. I never got that far.”

His lack of experience in the romance department may come from the fact that he was raised in a staunchly religious household. He also revealed that he had spent his early childhood years in a now-defunct Christian extremist sect which he described as a “religious cult”. Growing up, they were prohibited from enjoying music, television, and other activities that provide secular joy. Being raised in this kind of environment may have caused his trepidatious approach to the dating scene.

Lucky Daye is said to be currently single. There was no record of any past relationship with him, either. It could be that he hasn’t found “the one” yet, or he was just keeping any possible romantic relationship away from the public.
