Seven years after the release of his breakout single, “6 AM”, J Balvin finally made it to international stardom. The Colombian rapper, whose real name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, is already considered a global music icon at this point.
Deemed as the “Prince of Reggaeton”, J Balvin is one of the best-selling Latin artists, selling over 35 million records. Over the years of being active in the music industry, he has won 11 Billboard Latin Music Awards, 6 Latin Grammy Awards (plus 4 more nominations), 5 MTV Video Music Awards, and 7 Latin American Music Awards. That is aside from being recognized by the BMI Latin Awards as the “Contemporary Latin Songwriter of the Year” for his contribution to the Latin music industry. He is also the first recipient of the Global Icon Award, given by Lo Nuestro Awards, for spreading Latin music worldwide. And to top all of that, the music icon was also labeled as the “leader of a second-generation reggaeton revolution” by The Guinness World Records.
However, being a global icon does not exempt him from rumors. And one of the many issues this music superstar has faced is regarding his sexuality, as some fans started to assume that he was gay.

The rapper was, however, quick to correct the misconception. With the use of social media, he uploaded a video with a caption to clear up the speculation. The music superstar directly denied the rumor and told fans that if he was, indeed, gay, he would be open about it. He implied that he wouldn’t keep his sexuality from the public, if that was actually the case. But it’s not.

And unlike other celebrities who chose not to address the issue directly, J Balvin was never really shy about the topic. When he was once again asked about his sexuality during one of his interviews, he didn’t hesitate to give a direct reply.

Amidst all the gay rumors, J Balvin is actually in a long-term relationship with Argentine model Valentina Ferrer. They’ve been together since 2018 and she gave birth to their son, Rio, in 2021.
His girlfriend was actually a former Miss Argentina who made it to the Top 10 during her participation in the Miss Universe pageant. When asked about how it was to date the global superstar, she said that she loves the crowd and that she’s comfortable with the media attention. Thus, dating J Balvin is actually no problem.
