Hailee Steinfeld started early in show business. She has appeared in several short films since she was ten years old. The rumors about Hailee Steinfeld’s sexuality started when she was casted as Emily Dickinson in the Apple TV+ comedy-drama series “Dickinson” (2019–2021). Her character, Emily, made out with another female character, Sue, in the series. The kissing scene (it’s more of a bed scene actually) sparked the rumor that the actress was gay. It didn’t help that Ella Hunt, the actress who played “Sue” in the drama series, had recently come out as queer.
Also, Hailee Steinfeld has always been one of the biggest allies of the LGBTQ community. The singer/actress even performed during the 2016 Pride Celebration in Los Angeles. Hailee then posted a photo of herself during the performance on her social media accounts with the caption:
There’s no better reminder that love conquers all than joining the LGBQT community at LA Pride tonight. I could have danced all night in celebration of our freedom and equality. In memory of the victims this weekend, we stand with you and your families. 💗”
Some fans confused her support for the queer community as being a part of it.

Hailee Steinfeld used to date the “One Call Away” hitmaker, Charlie Puth, in 2015. The rumors of them dating started when they were spotted together backstage at the American Music Awards.
Prior to that, Puth admitted in an interview that he was dating someone at the moment, whom he refused to reveal the name of. That was after he locked lips with Meghan Trainor after their “Marvin Gaye” performance at the American Music Awards. Fans started to assume that something was going on between the two artists, thus, the shared on-stage kiss. Puth, however, was quick to address the issue, saying that the “kiss” was nothing more than a publicity stunt and that Trainor and him were just friends. He also added that he didn’t want people to get the wrong idea about him and the “All About That Bass” hitmaker since he was dating someone else.

Hailee Steinfeld was again spotted with Charlie Puth on several occasions, making it easier for fans to connect the dots. The couple eventually went public with their relationship. However, it didn’t really last long.

Hailee Steinfeld also dated Instagram influencer, Cameron Smoller. It was said that Smoller gained more followers when he dated the “Romeo and Juliet” actress. The couple weren’t shy about showing their relationship to the public by posting each other’s photos on their social media accounts. They made their first public appearance as a couple when they attended the 2017 Golden Globes afterparty together almost a year after they started dating. They attended several events together after that. The couple was, however, rumored to have broken up in November 2017.
Hailee Steinfeld was again spotted with Cameron Smoller attending the Republic Records party in July 2019. And then they were again spotted together at a Billie Eilish concert a few months later. There was no confirmation whether the couple was trying to rekindle the romance at that time or if they were just hanging out as friends.

It’s no secret that Justin Bieber dated a lot of girls in between his on-and-off relationship with longtime girlfriend Selena Gomez. And among the many women who were linked with the “Love Yourself” hitmaker was Hailee Steinfeld. The two were rumored to have briefly dated — for a month if there’s any truth to the rumors.
This was, however, denied by Hailee Steinfeld. She insisted that they were just friends.

Probably the most publicized relationship Hailee Steinfeld had was with Niall Horan. The two were known to be close friends before they started dating. The dating rumor about them first appeared when the former One Direction member posted a birthday greeting for the actress on his Instagram account in late 2017, calling her “the loveliest person on the planet and one of my best friends.”
Hailee Steinfeld, however, refused to address the issue right away.

So, Is Hailee Steinfeld Gay?
The answer is NO. Playing a queer character in one of her roles does not necessarily mean that she’s one in real life. Her support of the LGBTQ community doesn’t make her one of them, as well. If Hailee Steinfeld’s dating history is not enough proof that she’s straight, then we do not know what else will.
