After cross-country tours, Diplo caught the attention of rapper M.I.A. in 2004. She invited him to collaborate on a mixtape, “Piracy Funds”, which set the career of the aspiring musician. He became a producer and was able to work with other artists such as Shakira, Bruno Mars, and Snoop Dogg. Diplo was also a founding member of Major Lazer and was part of other DJ groups including LSD, Labrinth, Jack Ü, and Silk Sonic.
With an extensive career since the 1990s, it’s not surprising that Diplo also has an equally long list of relationships. The musician isn’t shy when it comes to the dating scene. Among his high-profile relationships include famous singers, models, and pageant queens. However, with Diplo’s recent podcast confession, fans can’t help but wonder: is Diplo gay? Let’s find out below.
VOTE: What is Diplo’s Sexuality?
Diplo’s Dating History
While the musician has a busy dating life, it’s important to note that Diplo has never been married. Whether it’s due to his busy schedule or a personal choice, fans will probably be left to their own theories. Before discussing the DJ’s sexuality, let’s take a look at his list of girlfriends through the years.
Diplo and M.I.A. (2003-2008)
The DJ and rapper M.I.A. first met in a club in 2003 when the latter heard him playing one of her songs. They immediately collaborated on a record and fell in love along the process. The couple dated for five years, but the relationship was not without drama. After separating in 2008, sources revealed that infidelity and emotional abuse were the roots of the break-up.
Diplo and Kathryn Lockhart (2009-2014)
In 2009, Diplo met Kathryn Lockhart when she was working as a bartender. Lockhart isn’t part of the entertainment industry, so there’s little to no information about her life. However, it was announced in 2010 that the pair were expecting their first child. Although unprepared for parenthood, they happily welcomed their son, Lockett, within the same year.
Four years later, Diplo and Lockhart had another son, Lazer, despite their on-and-off relationship. They quietly separated in 2014 but remained dedicated co-parents to their children.
Diplo and Katy Perry (2014-2015)
Not long after his separation from Lockhart, Diplo began dating singer Katy Perry. The two were spotted getting cozy at Coachella and at an after-premiere party. Their relationship lasted for a year before calling it quits in 2015.
Fans assumed that the split was amicable until two years later when Perry was asked in an interview to rank her exes in bed. The American singer placed Diplo last although she insisted that all of them were “amazing lovers.” Diplo apparently retorted by tweeting: “I don’t even remember having sex.”
It’s unclear whether the pair are on good terms. Since their breakup, Perry has partnered up with Orlando Bloom and has one daughter with him.
Diplo and Madonna (2015, Rumored)
At the same time that Diplo was supposedly dating Katy Perry, he was also linked to superstar Madonna. The alleged couple had 20 years in between them, but then again, the singer was never one to be bothered with age gaps. While there aren’t any details regarding this relationship, its star power is too strong to be excluded from the list.
Diplo and Kate Hudson (2016-2017, Rumored)
Speculations started flying again for Diplo, but this time with Hollywood actress Kate Hudson. The two were first seen holding hands at a Vanity Fair Oscar party. However, sources stated that Diplo and Hudson were just hanging out and they had a “casual relationship.” Neither party commented on the rumors and the fling fizzled out by the end of the year.
Diplo and Jevon King (2020)
In 2020, Diplo posted on Mother’s Day and announced that he just had his third son with former Miss Universe candidate, Jevon King. It’s unclear how the pair got together, so the news came as a surprise to fans. King did share that she was expecting her first child, but she kept the father’s identity private. The duo are possibly not in a romantic relationship but are co-parenting their son.
Diplo and Chantel Jeffries (2020)
At the beginning of 2020, Diplo was seen getting cozy yet again with fellow DJ Chantel Jeffries. The two were captured together in Tulum, Mexico, with Jeffries later confirming their pairing on Instagram. In a series of posts, she revealed that it was actually Diplo who was taking all of her vacation pictures. Unfortunately, the couple didn’t last long and the affair ended by the end of the month.

Diplo Opening Up About Being Gay
In March 2023, Diplo made headlines when he opened up about his sexuality in Emily Ratajkowski’s podcast, “High Low with EmRata”. According to the musician, he didn’t like putting labels on his identity. He also found it difficult to describe his sexuality and eventually settled by saying: “I’m not, not gay.”
Although Diplo had only been in relationships with women, he stated that he could see himself dating men. And while it’s likely that he’s received oral sex from men before, he was “not really aroused by men.” The musician further supported his previous statements that someone’s gender didn’t matter to him because what he’s looking for is their “vibe.”
Is Diplo Gay?
Yes, Diplo may be considered gay, but the musician prefers not to label his sexuality. He also shared that he could see himself dating other men, but prefers to base his interest on a person’s vibe instead of gender. Based on his dating history and comments, fans may assume that Diplo is fluid when it comes to his sexuality.
