Bobby Flay is also the owner and executive chef of several restaurants and franchises, including Bobby’s Burger Palace, Bobby’s Burgers, and Amalfi. He had always been drawn to cooking. At age 8, he asked for an Easy-Bake Oven for Christmas. He dropped school at the age of 17 and started working. He had his first jobs at a pizza parlor and at Baskin-Robbins.
He then started working at the Joe Allen Restaurant in Manhattan’s Theater District, where his father was a partner. His salad making skills impressed the proprietor, Joe Allen, and it made him offer to pay for his tuition in college. Flay received a degree in culinary arts and was a member of the first graduating class of the French Culinary Institute in 1984. And the rest, so they say, is history.
But alongside his undeniable success in his chosen career, the chef was never spared from gay rumors. There were always hearsays questioning the renowned chef’s sexual orientation. Well, is Bobby Flay gay?

On Failed Marriages
The celebrity chef has been married three times. Unfortunately, all his marriages end up in divorce.
His first wife was Debra Ponzek, who is also a professional chef. She works as an executive chef at several restaurants. The pair met in June 1990 at an event for chefs. It took them a year to start dating, but only less than a month to get engaged. They tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony in May 1991, which was attended by their closest friends and family.
Both chefs excelled in the field they’re in. In fact, they were both nominated for the James Beard Foundation Award for Rising Star Chef in 1992. Bobby wanted to withdraw from the nomination when he learned that Debra was nominated, too. He was, however, not allowed to do that. It was Debra who won the award, by the way.
Although both were successful in their chosen career, their marriage wasn’t as lucky. They got divorced in late 1993 and Debra married an Italian man, Greg Addonizio, one year later.
Bobby won the James Beard Foundation Award for Rising Star Chef the next year and it was his ex-wife, Debra, who presented him the award.
Bobby Flay’s second marriage was to TV host Kate Connelly. They met at the Food Network in the mid-’90s. She was a co-host for “Robin Leach: Talking Food”, where Bobby was a guest. Robin Leach noticed the instant attraction between the two.
They started going out right away and even the first date was a huge success already.
They only dated for a few months before Bobby popped the question. Kate, of course, said yes and they got married at Flay’s Bolo Bar and Restaurant near midtown Manhattan.
Kate Connelly had a son named Jonathan from a previous relationship. When The New York Times asked Bobby how it felt to become a stepfather and a husband all at the same moment, he replied with:
The couple had a daughter together named Sophie Flay. The marriage, however, didn’t last long as they also got divorced in 1998.
Bobby and his daughter, Sophie, had a show together titled “The Flay List”, which aired on Food Network, where they would seek out the best local restaurants in Los Angeles.

The father-daughter tandem also had another show on iHeart Radio titled “Always Hungry with Bobby Flay and Sophie Flay,” where they would cook together and she would give her thoughts on cuisine trends for the younger, hipper generation.
Then here comes Bobby Flay’s third marriage to actress Stephanie March. The somewhat complicated relationship started with a blind date, which turned out really fine.
It didn’t take the chef long to pop the question. They had a two-year engagement before they tied the knot. Everything was going just fine with the pair. They even worked on a show together titled “Boy Meets Grill with Bobby Flay.”
The couple stayed married for three years before their relationship hit rock bottom. A source told people that the breakup was inevitable. It was later revealed that Bobby was cheating with his assistant, Elyse Tirrell, as reported by Page Six. The outlet had a friend of Stephanie as a source. This was, however, denied by Bobby’s camp. According to a friend of the chef, the cheating issue has no basis in reality.
During the divorce proceedings, Stephanie allegedly contested her $5,000 a month prenup and even accused the chef of committing infidelity with three women, including actress January Jones.
The drama didn’t end there as a plane carrying a banner that read “CHEATER” was seen flying over during Bobby’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, which took place just a few months after things ended with his third ex-wife. Stephanie March’s representative, however, told Us Weekly that the actress had nothing to do with it.
She had moved on and married tech mogul, Dan Benton, not even a year after her divorce from the celebrity chef.
On Other Failed Relationships
The celebrity chef had other romances outside his three failed marriages.
He had been linked to chef Giada De Laurentiis in 2015.
The famous chef was also rumored to have briefly dated actress-comedian Chelsea Joy Handler in 2016. The two were spotted enjoying a dinner date in Santa Monica, CA, which the actress later confirmed during a radio interview.
Bobby Flay also dated Canadian actress Heléne Yorke. They started going out in 2016 but only revealed their relationship in public after a year.
It was unknown when the couple broke up, but in September 2019, Heléne Yorke posted a photo on Instagram sharing a kiss with her new beau at a Michigan football game.
Current Relationship
Bobby Flay is currently in a relationship with writer and former editor Christina Pérez. The couple, who met through mutual friends, went public with their relationship in November 2021 after keeping their romance private for a year.
The former editor of various fashion magazines, including Vogue, Glamour, Lucky, and PopSugar also loves to cook. She, in fact, influenced Bobby in the kitchen.
It seemed like the couple’s dynamics had been pretty good, both in and out of the kitchen. If Christina is not helping him in the kitchen, she makes sure that everything else looks great.
The pair have been dating for more than two years now and still counting.

Is Bobby Flay Gay?
No, Bobby Flay is not gay. He had been in several relationships in the past, including his three failed marriages, but none of his romances were homosexual. He had always been into women, thus, there was really no reason to question his sexuality. The famous chef is, without a doubt, straight.
