Amber Liu is a Taiwanese-American singer, rapper, and songwriter best known for being part of the famous K-pop girl group F(X). She was born on September 18, 1992, in Los Angeles, California as Amber Josephine Liu to hardworking immigrant parents. In 2008, Liu was selected during the SM Entertainment Global Auditions under the moniker Amber. While her parents were initially hesitant about her musical career, they were supportive when Amber moved to South Korea to pursue her dreams.

After training for more than a year, Amber debuted as one of the members of F(X) in September 2009. Although her main position was being the group’s rapper, Amber loved the songwriting process. She helped co-write some of their singles, including “Goodbye Summer” and “Summer Lover.” Amber also collaborated with other K-pop idols such as Yuri from the legendary girl group, Girls’ Generation.
In 2015, SM Entertainment launched Amber as a solo artist with her debut EP “Beautiful”. The title track proved to be an enormous success and peaked at number two on Billboard’s World Albums chart. Amber dropped more songs with her parent company before signing herself over to Steel Wood Entertainment in 2018. The following year, the singer-slash-rapper left SM and the South Korean idol scene.

In a 2018 profile with Koreaboo, Amber opened up for the first time about her past. She revealed that her track, “Right Now”, highlighted her struggles with relationships. The singer also considered herself to be a very serious lover.
