Alec Shane Benjamin is an American singer-songwriter who is recognized for his songs “Paper Crown” and “End of the Summer”. This 28-year-old artist from Phoenix, Arizona had his breakthrough in 2018 with the single “Let Me Down Slowly”, which made it to the top 40 in more than 25 countries and had accumulated over 1.24 billion streams on Spotify as of writing.

Although he writes and sings mostly in English, Benjamin has also released a Mandarin-Chinese version of some of his songs. This talented songwriter has also found success in the songs he has written for other artists, such as Jon Bellion when he was featured on Bellion’s “New York Soul, Pt. II” album.
Some of Benjamin’s success can be attributed to America’s Got Talent 12-year-old contestant, Merrick Hanna, who danced to his song “I Built A Friend” last 2017. The tear-jerking audition piece blew the judges away, especially Simon Cowell, as well as the audience. And so I was like, oh, it’s like– you feel like– I’m so close, but so far away. I was like, what if she meets somebody else?”

That’s how he ended up writing a song and sending it to her, although he insisted that he wasn’t really a romantic guy. And yes, the girl loved the song, he revealed. He later uploaded the song online and people actually loved it as well.
Yeah, she loved the song. That’s why I finished it. I just did it as a voice memo. And I was sending it– and it wasn’t– and then I was like, oh, I guess I’ll just put it online. And then I think people– it was pretty well received.”
Although it turned out well, Benjamin was actually worried that the girl would find it crazy that he wrote her a song, provided that they didn’t know each other well.
I also don’t even know her. So to be like, hey, I wrote you a song might be a little much right now. She might be like ‘This guy is crazy.’”
